Eyam Fell Race sponsored by The Barrel

The Eyam Fell Race sponsored by The Barrel takes place on 1 September 2026 in the historic "Plague" village of Eyam. The main event is a 10 km fell race that starts and finishes in Eyam and follows moorland and hillside terrain.

The route climbs out of Eyam to Sir William Hill, passes the Barrel Inn at Bretton, crosses toward Abney Moor with notable views across the Peak District, descends through Abney Moor with a tight switchback, ascends through heather back toward Sir William Hill, then drops through a steep wooded section before returning to the village. The course is marshalled.

Entries for the main race are by preregistration only and numbers are strictly limited. The entry fee for the main race is £8. The minimum age for the main race is 17 on the day; anyone under 18 must have fell running experience over similar distances.

There is also a 3 km junior race for ages 11 to 16 with on-the-day entry priced at £2. The junior course includes a steep ascent with steps, a level section and a steep descent; shoes with good grip are advised. Prizes are awarded in junior age categories and for first local.

Prizes for the event are supplied in part by The Barrel Inn at Bretton. A barbecue and bar operate in the courtyard after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
