Eyam Fell Race sponsored by The Barrel
The event is a scenic fell race that starts and finishes in the historic village of Eyam. The main race is a 10 km fell course that climbs from the village up to Sir William Hill, passes the Barrel Inn at Bretton and goes over towards Abney Moor. Runners gain views of the Peak District, then descend through Abney Moor, follow a tight switchback, climb again through heather toward Sir William Hill and drop back through a steep wooded section into Eyam.
Preregistration is required for the main race. Entry fee for the main race is £8 and numbers are strictly limited. The race is marshalled. The main event is open to runners aged 17 and over; anyone under 18 must have fell running experience over similar distances.
There is also a junior event of 3 km, intended for ages 11 to 16. The junior race is enter on the day with no pre-entry and a £2 fee payable on the day. The junior course includes a steep ascent with steps, a level section and a steep descent; shoes with good grip are advised and the route is marshalled. Prizes are awarded in junior age categories and there are additional pub-supplied prizes for the main race. A barbecue and bar are provided in the courtyard after the event.
