Eyam Fell Race sponsored by The Barrel

The event is a fell race held in the village of Eyam. The main course is about ten kilometres and follows a loop that climbs from Eyam up to Sir William Hill, passes the Barrel Inn at Bretton, runs toward Abney Moor and returns through a steep wooded section into the village. The route includes steep ascents, a steep descent, a tight switchback and open moorland sections that provide views over the Peak District. The course is marshalled.

Preregistration is required for the main race and entry numbers are strictly limited. The race is for people aged 17 and older on the day; anyone under 18 must have prior fell running experience over similar distances. Organisers provide prizes, many supplied by the Barrel Inn, and there is a courtyard barbecue and bar after the event.

A junior event is held separately for younger runners with a shorter course that includes a steep ascent with steps, a level section and a steep descent; shoes with good grip are advised. The junior race is for ages 11 to 16 with age-category prizes and is marshalled.
