Event overview
The Eungella Rainforest Run is event number 3 in the five-part "off the beaten track" Trail Run Series. It takes place in the Pioneer Valley near Mackay and uses trails in the Eungella National Park and Crediton Reserves that are only accessible once per year.
Distances
The event offers three distances:
- 5 km: A short out-and-back course through rainforest.
- 11 km: A loop course with mixed terrain, climbs, and a chance of getting wet feet.
- 18 km: A remote run with 590 meters of elevation gain, featuring rolling downhills and punchy climbs.
Course details
All courses are 100% off-road and on uneven ground. The courses are marked with pink tape, signage, arrows, and caution tape. The 18 km course offers two opportunities to cross a river at the Diggings. One limited water station is available on the course. The start and finish location is at the corner of Eungella Dam Road and Hazelwood Roads, approximately 6.1 km from the Broken River Day Use Area.
Logistics and rules
The registration fee includes athlete photos and insurance. Participants in the 11 km and 18 km distances must carry mandatory gear: two compression bandages, a fully charged phone, and a whistle. No toilets are available at the start/finish line; the nearest facilities are at the Eungella Range Cricket Ground and Broken River Day Use Area. The event is not designed to be walked. Competitors who do not finish must report to an event official.
Series and awards
Points earned in this event contribute to the overall Trail Run Series standings. On the day, the top three male and female finishers in each distance receive cash prizes, and the top three junior boys and girls in the short distance are also awarded.
