Event Overview
The Eugene Curnow Trail Marathon is a 26.2-mile point-to-point trail race held on July 11, 2026. It starts at the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth, Minnesota, and finishes at the Munger Trailhead in Carlton, Minnesota.
Course and Terrain
The course follows rough woodland trails with an ascent of 2,969 feet and a descent of 2,566 feet. It encompasses approximately one half of the Minnesota Voyageur Trail Ultramarathon route, with additional distance to reach the full marathon length.
History
NMTC introduced the race in 1992 as a thank you to volunteers of the Voyageur ultramarathon and as an introduction to the course for those considering the 50-mile event. Originally called the Half Voyageur Trail Marathon, it was renamed in 2013 after Eugene Curnow, a local trail running legend who contributed to the sport's development in northern Minnesota.
Race Support
Aid stations are provided along the course, with some allowing crew access and drop bags. The race is cupless, so runners must carry their own hydration vessels. Cutoff times are enforced.
Registration and Awards
Registration typically opens in March via Ultrasignup. Top ten finishers in men, women, and nonbinary categories receive pottery mugs, and all finishers get a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
