ERC Turkey Trot
The event is a community Turkey Trot held at Presque Isle State Park, Beach 1 in Erie, Pennsylvania. It includes multiple running events on roads around the park and is the first race in the winter series. To qualify for the series, participants must either volunteer or finish the Turkey Trot, NYD, and St. Patrick's Day races.
Pre-race packet pickup is at Erie Fitness Now. Shoe Fly will collect non-perishable food items at packet pickup on Wednesday for donation to the Second Harvest food bank. Race information emails will be sent a few days before the event.
Organizers note a past safety problem with participants crossing into the traffic lane to pass slower runners; this behavior is described as a hazard that could threaten the event’s continued use of Presque Isle. For the 5k, a corraled start will be used so faster runners start first and slower walkers start last.
Parking at Beach 1 will not be open for general use; the Beach 1 lots are closed except to on-site volunteers. Shuttle buses will be provided for access to the event. There is an after party at Rainbow Gardens.
Distances:
- 5k : 3.10686 miles, U-shaped course, finishes on the lake road
- 10k : 6.21371 miles, two-loop course on main road and lake road
- Combined 10k + 5k : 9.32057 miles, 10k followed by 5k
Registration opens October 6 and closes November 8. Fees listed are $15 for individual 5k or 10k entries and $18 for the combined entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
