Event overview

The ERC New Year's Day event takes place on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Presque Isle, Erie, PA (1 Peninsula Dr, 16505). The event includes two course options:

  • 5 miles
  • 5K

The 5K is a timed fun walk/run; there are no awards for the 5K.

Race series, course and logistics

This race is the second event in the ERC Winter Series. To qualify for the Winter Series premium, participants must either volunteer for or finish all three series races. The series also includes the ERC Turkey Trot and the ERC St Patrick's Day Distance Festival.

The course starts and finishes in front of the Rotary Pavilion near the Waterworks area (Beach #7) and is run entirely on the park roadways. Packet pickup for pre-registered runners is at the Rotary Pavilion. Post-race refreshments are provided in the Rotary Pavilion.

Registration is available online; organizers ask participants to register by December 26, 2025, to help plan refreshments. Race premium is a long-sleeve tri-blend shirt; ordering by December 9, 2025, is required to guarantee sizes. Overall and age-group awards are given in the 5-mile race, with masters defined as age 40 and over. The event may be postponed or cancelled if Presque Isle State Park is closed by park authorities. Maps for both courses are available on MapMyRun. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
