Empty Stroller Run & Walk - Reading

The seventh annual Empty Stroller Run & Walk is a series of events in October that honors families who have experienced the loss of a baby during pregnancy, infancy, or early childhood. The program offers a virtual 5K option held anytime from October 1 through October 31, plus satellite in-person sites in Pennsylvania.

Satellite locations and dates: Jim Dietrich Park, Reading, PA; Kish Park, Lewistown, PA (1 Derry Park Drive); Nay Aug Park, Scranton, PA (500 Arthur Ave); Rotary Park Pavilion, Souderton, PA (459 Wile Ave). Registration is required for all participants; children ages 14 and under participate for free. Adult registration fees vary by site.

Event format varies by site: some 5K events are self timed while others are chip timed. Many sites offer a Remembrance Walk; Reading’s program includes a Remembrance Walk with options to walk 1 mile or a full 5K. Participants often choose to walk or run with an empty stroller as a symbolic gesture, but a stroller is not required.

After the runs and walks, sites host family friendly post event activities such as music, food trucks, and other activities. All registration fees, merchandise sales, and donations support families affected by baby loss. Teams may be formed to participate in memory of a baby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
