About the race
The Empire Ranch Trail Run is a trail running and walking event held at Historic Empire Ranch in the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area near Sonoita, Arizona. The 2027 edition is presented by Run Tucson in partnership with the Empire Ranch Foundation and the Bureau of Land Management.
The event program includes multiple course options:
- 10K trail run
- 5K trail run/walk
- 1 Mile family-friendly trail walk/run
- Children's Mile for ages 10 and under
- Parent's One Mile to accompany children
Courses follow wide dirt trails, cattle paths, and the grounds of the ranch across rolling grasslands. Some entries include a souvenir shirt and a bib with official time; the Children's Mile does not include the souvenir shirt and the Parent's One Mile has no official time or bib for accompanying adults.
The event features demonstrations and displays that depict ranch life and the history of the Historic Empire Ranch. It serves as part of the Empire Ranch Foundation's 150th anniversary observances and also acknowledges America's 250th anniversary. Proceeds support the Empire Ranch Foundation's work to protect, restore, and sustain the ranch buildings and landscape as a western heritage and education center.
