Eastern States 20 Miler & Half Marathon
The Eastern States event on Saturday, March 27, 2027 includes two road race distances:
- 20 Miler
- Half Marathon
Both courses run along the New England seacoast on Route 1A and finish at Hampton Beach State Park in Hampton, NH. The 20 Miler starts in Kittery, ME and passes through Portsmouth, NH; the Half Marathon starts in Rye, NH. The courses are described as flat and fast and are used by many runners as spring marathon training runs.
Organizers set time limits for each race: 4.5 hours for the 20 Miler and 3.5 hours for the Half Marathon. Mile markers count down from 19 to 1 (the 20 Miler) and correspond to the last 13 miles in the half marathon. Aid stations are located approximately every 2.5 to 3 miles: seven stations on the 20 Miler and five on the Half Marathon. All aid stations provide water, Gatorade, and port-o-johns; GU Energy products are available at specific midrace stations.
Participant parking is located at Hampton Beach State Park; shuttle buses transport participants from that parking to both start locations. Gear check is available at both start lines with pick up at the finish. Strollers are not permitted. Medals are distributed to all finishers, age-group awards are given by net time, and overall winners are recognized by gun time. T-shirts are limited to the first 1,400 combined registrants. A virtual option is available through March 29, 2027, with separate submission procedures and result deadlines. Free digital race photos are posted a few days after the event.
