Earth Day 50k
This trail race takes place at Veteran Acres and Sternes Woods in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The course is a 5.2 mile loop that runs on winding single track and includes rolling hills, spring flowers, open prairie, and pine forest. All race distances start together on the same loop.
Distances
- 50k - six laps of the 5.2 mile loop.
- 15 mile - three laps of the 5.2 mile loop.
- 5 mile - one lap of the 5.2 mile loop.
There is one major aid station at the start/finish offering a variety of foods such as cookies, soup, PB&J, Gnarly Nutrition products, soda, chips, and pretzels. The event has an overall cutoff of eight hours; runners must begin their final lap in time to complete the race within that limit. Pacers are not permitted, including human or canine pacers.
Awards include first through third overall for male and female competitors, with separate age group awards for male and female in these ranges: under 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. The event offers race shirts, artistic awards for all finishers, and finisher medals. The organizers state a goal of landfill free operations and note a military discount is available.
