Event overview
The Earth Day trail races take place on April 18, 2026 at Veterans Acres in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The event offers multiple race distances and has a stated overall time limit of 8 hours to complete the race. Registration closes on April 10 at 11:59 PM CT. Early bird pricing is available until November 30. The Crystal Lake Park District is acknowledged as the venue partner.

Course and aid
The course is a 5 mile loop featuring single-track trail and rolling hills. All races start together in the ball field and route around a pond before runners enter the single track. There is one major aid station at the start/finish area offering homemade items and typical ultra food: cookies, PB&J, sports drink, soda, chips, and pretzels. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle as the event is working toward being landfill-free.
Logistics, awards and policies
Race start and finish take place at Veterans Acres Main parking lot, 431 N. Walkup, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Friday packet pick-up is 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Ornery Mule Racing headquarters, 824 S. Main Street, Crystal Lake. Race day packet pick-up is available in the pavilion near the main parking lot. Overall first place male and female awards are separate from age-group awards. Age-group categories are Under 29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+. Transfers and rollovers are permitted under specified deadlines; no refunds are issued.
