Eagle River Triathlon, Chugiak, Alaska
Eagle River Triathlon is the 2026 USA Triathlon Alaska State Championship held at Chugiak High School, 16525 S Birchwood Loop Rd, Chugiak AK 99567. The State Championship includes the Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons. Additional event options are a sprint duathlon, relay teams, and two kids race distances.
The swim legs use the Chugiak High School pool in split lanes. The Olympic swim is 1500 meters (33 laps) and the Sprint swim is 500 yards (10 laps). The primary bike routes are measured as 40K for Olympic and 20K for Sprint and are run as out-and-back courses with multiple climbs, descents, and turns. The runs for triathlon and duathlon take place on roads and trails near the Chugach mountain side and the Glenn Highway. The sprint duathlon begins with a one-mile trail run on the Beach Lake ski trails.
Relay teams are allowed; teams are typically two to three racers and one team member may perform two legs, which allows a team to consist of two people.
Two kids race distances are offered for ages 6 to 12: a short course and a long course with differing swim, bike, and run lengths.
The event partners with A.B.A.T.E. of Anchorage for motorcycle support and volunteer assistance. The event makes an annual cash donation to A.B.A.T.E. for its Christmas in July Toy Drive and seeks additional support for that drive. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
