Durango Trails Backyard Ultra : Durango, Colorado
The Durango Trails Backyard Ultra is a last person standing style race held on the Spurline Trail System at Three Springs near Durango, Colorado on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Participants complete repeated loops called yards; each yard is 4.17 miles of dirt road and single track on the Railspike trail and nearby dirt roads. The exact route will be shared before the event.
All proceeds support Durango Trails, a local nonprofit that plans, builds, and maintains trails. Entry fee is $60. Runners are also required to secure pledges: at least one pledge per yard completed and a combined minimum of $10 per yard for each racer. Discounts may be available for 2025 season volunteers, Durango Trails members, and participants under 18.
There will be one aid station at basecamp offering water, local Tailwind, common snacks and fruit, and three meals each day. Soup, broth, and coffee will be available through the night. Porta potties will be located at main basecamp.
Conditions in late May can vary widely; temperatures may drop significantly at night and trails can be muddy. An alternate all dirt road route may be used if trails are not runnable. Personal crew stations are 8x8 or 10x10 on dirt; stakes and weights for tents are strongly recommended. Early registration gives priority for tent placement. Set up begins Friday, May 29.
