Durango Trails Backyard Ultra
The Durango Trails Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing style race held on the Spurline Trail System in Durango, Colorado on May 30, 2026. Runners complete repeated loops of 4.17 miles on a combination of dirt road and single track each hour. Each loop is called a yard; if a runner finishes a yard in less than an hour they wait until the next hour to start the next loop. The event continues hour after hour until only one runner remains, and that runner must complete one additional hour to finish as the winner.
The course uses the Railspike trail and nearby dirt roads and offers a soft surface with scenic views. The exact route will be shared before the event. All proceeds support Durango Trails, a local nonprofit that plans, builds, and maintains trails, educates trail users, and creates connections on and off the trail.
Entry fee information and fundraising requirements are part of participation: the entry fee is $60 and runners must secure pledges equal to at least $10 per yard completed. One aid station will operate at basecamp with water, local Tailwind, snacks, three meals per day, and nighttime soup, broth, and coffee. Porta potties will be available at basecamp. Personal camp stations will be 8x8 or 10x10 spots on dirt; weights and stakes are recommended because strong winds are possible. An alternate all-dirt route will be used if trails are not runnable.
