Duddon Valley Fell Race
The Duddon Valley Fell Race is a pair of A category fell races in the Lake District. The Long Duddon is run around the head of the valley and the Short Duddon follows a shorter route focused on the Dow and Caw ridges. The event is scheduled for Saturday 30 May 2026 and the venue is the Newfield Inn, Seathwaite, Duddon Valley, Cumbria.
Distances:
- Long Duddon: 18 miles / 6000 ft, 29 km / 1830 m
- Short Duddon: 10 miles / 3000 ft
The Long route passes Harter, Hardknott, Little Stand, Swirl How, Dow Crag, White Pike and Caw. Both races are category A fell races and require navigational ability, appropriate kit and relevant experience in rough mountain terrain. Minimum age is 18.
Entries are by pre-entry only; there is no entry on the day. Pre-entry fees are listed separately for members and non-members. Organisers apply cutoffs to limit the race to about six hours; checkpoint cutoffs include Hardknott 1:45, Three Shires 3:15, Dow Crag 4:40 and White Pike 5:05.
Competitors must be competent with map and compass in poor visibility, carry or wear full body cover, and carry standard equipment including a whistle. The route is mainly single track to Wallowbarrow farm, with wet boggy sections above Grassguards, tricky descents from Little Stand (GR 250033) and White Pike (GR 248955), a quarry cliff near GR 247958, and very little water after the Three Shires Stone.
