Duck Turkey Trot 5K
The Duck Turkey Trot 5K is an annual charitable run/walk held on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2026. The event is produced by the Outer Banks Track Club, a local 501 C-3 nonprofit that supports youth runners in Dare County.
The race revives the long-standing Advice 5K tradition that ended in 2021 and is open to runners and walkers. It is intended for vacationers, homeowners, and local residents who want to mark the holiday together. The community and local businesses are involved in the event.
The event is not chip timed. A race clock will display time and top finishers will be posted, but complete individual times will not be posted. Pets are not allowed. Packet pickup takes place the evening before at Swells'a Brewing Duck Dive Bar. Event reception and the after event celebration are held at Tree House Cafe and Coffee in Scarborough Faire Shopping Village.
A costume contest runs with three categories: Best Thanksgiving, Most Ducky, and Best Group Costume; entrants must wear a race bib. Registration includes a tee shirt, swag bag, a hot drink ticket, a beer ticket for those over 21, post race carbohydrates, and access to an aid station on the course. Prizes include pies for first male and first female finishers and additional random awards.
The course starts on Christopher Drive adjacent to Scarborough Faire, follows Ocean Way and Scarborough Lane to NC 12, continues north along NC 12 to Schooner Ridge Drive, loops through Schooner Ridge and Chip Court, and finishes near the start on Christopher Drive.
