CPT Drew Russell Warrior Run
The CPT Drew Russell Warrior Run is an annual athletic event held in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This event is organized in memory of Captain Drew Russell, a Western Michigan University ROTC alumnus. The physical gathering takes place at the Student Recreation Center located at 2000 W Michigan Ave. The proceeds from the event support an endowed scholarship established for cadets within the Western Michigan University ROTC program.
Participants have several options for involvement:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
The live event features a traditional start with the National Anthem and a Boomer Start Gun. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual race option is available, allowing participants to complete their distance from any location during a specified week-long window. Registering by the early March deadline ensures a commemorative t-shirt; those participating in the virtual event will have their shirts mailed to them, while in-person participants collect theirs on-site.
The event is inclusive of families and pets. Attendees are permitted to use strollers during the race, and dogs are welcome to participate provided they remain on a leash. Medals are awarded to top finishers in the in-person categories, which are divided by gender and age groups: below 25, 26-40, and 41 and above.
