Fall 50 course overview
The Fall 50 is a 10-leg road race totaling 50.7 miles along the western shoreline of the Door County peninsula, beginning in Gills Rock and finishing in Sturgeon Bay. The route uses paved asphalt throughout and passes through several communities on Highway 42 and local back roads. Course signage is red and placed at every turn and mile marker.
The course is not closed to motor vehicles; runners are asked to be alert and generally run on the side of the road where the signs are placed. Teams must use designated exchange points for hand-offs; solo runners may use a gear check service available during packet pick up and at the start. Exchange points provide parking, volunteers, restrooms, and a marked hand-off area.
There are nine fully stocked exchange/aid stations offering self-serve cups, water, Gatorade, Clif Bars, fruit, and cookies. Exchange #5 (mile 29, Juddville) includes an expanded "Half Way Buffet" with hot soup, sandwiches, and heavier snacks. GPX and KML files of the course route are available for download for use on GPS devices.
Course features include mixed sections along highway shoulders and quieter back roads, clearly described leg maps, and mile-by-mile exchange locations through communities such as Ellison Bay, Sister Bay, Ephraim, Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, and Carlsville.
