Dogwood-Azalea Festival 5k
The Dogwood-Azalea Festival 5k is a long-standing running event in Charleston, Missouri, with a history dating back to 1979. The race is held in conjunction with the city's annual festival, featuring a route that begins and ends at Rolwing Park near the Scout Cabin. The event utilizes a USATF Certified Course (MO20001DG) characterized by flat terrain through local streets including Main Street, Byrd Avenue, and Warde Road.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5 km (Standard running race)
- 1/3 mile (Youth run)
- One block (Toddler run)
The course is prepared with coned-off lanes for runners and police officers stationed at various intersections to assist with navigation. A water station is positioned at approximately the 1.75-mile mark, located near the intersection of East Commercial Street and North Virginia Street. Restroom facilities are available on-site at the park.
Recognition is provided for several categories, including trophies for the overall male and female finishers and awards for the top three participants in various age groups ranging from under 6 to over 80. Special cups are designated for the youngest finishers and the first male and female residents of the 63834 area code. For safety and course regulations, dogs, roller blades, and headsets are not permitted during the event.
