DOGSPEED - Benefit run for animals in need
Dogspeed is a benefit running event hosted by Kaizen Running Club in Tahlequah, OK, supporting the Humane Society of Cherokee County. Entry includes a donation of dog or cat food or equivalent pet supplies; organizers also collect cash donations and supplies such as toys, blankets, and cleaning items. There is a registration fee of $5 that helps cover event costs; additional donations and profits are directed to the Humane Society.
The format uses a repeating loop of roughly 1.05 miles that starts and finishes on the front lawn of the NSU Fitness Center. Participants may repeat the loop as many times as they choose and may come and go throughout the day. The event is untimed; participants are responsible for recording the number of loops they complete. A finisher recognition is available to registrants who complete at least one loop.
On-site amenities for donors include food and snacks such as donuts and hot dogs, water, shade, and ice baths to address high summer temperatures. The Humane Society of Cherokee County will be present with some adoptable animals. In the previous year, the club delivered $1,000 in food and supplies and $1,000 in cash to the shelter, and some participants covered very long distances during the event.
