DOGSPEED: Benefit run for animals
DOGSPEED is a 12-hour, come-and-go community run and walk held on June 20, 2026 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The course consists of a nominal one mile loop that starts and finishes on the front lawn of the Northeastern State University Fitness Center at 530 N. Oak Ave; one recorded loop is approximately 1.05 miles. The event is untimed and participants are responsible for tracking and recording their own laps.
The event combines running with on-site activities and amenities. Organizers plan games, prizes, food and drinks, pet treats and shade, an inflatable water slide, and ice baths. The Humane Society of Cherokee County will be present with adoptable animals.
This is a benefit event to collect pet food, supplies, and funds for the Humane Society of Cherokee County. There is a $5 registration fee and an additional requested donation of dog or cat food or pet supplies. The $5 fee helps cover event costs and any additional donations are intended for the Humane Society. Last year the event raised about $1,000 in cash and over $1,000 in donated food, and some participants completed long cumulative distances during the 12 hour period.
