BEFAST 5K - Stroke Awareness Run
The BEFAST 5K is a community event hosted by Cherokee Nation Public Health, Cherokee Nation Health Services, and the Regional Brain Institute on May 16, 2026 at the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center, Tahlequah, Oklahoma (19600 E Ross St).
Event formats include in-person and virtual options. Distances offered:
- 5K Run/Walk in-person and virtual
- 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk in-person
Published registration fees are $20 for the 5K (in-person and virtual) and $10 for the 1-mile fun run. Race day registration and packet pick-up are available. Virtual participants may submit results for the 5K between May 16 and May 23.
On-site offerings and resources include free health screenings (blood pressure, glucose, and more), diabetes and nutrition education, stroke awareness materials, cholesterol and hyperlipidemia information, and smoking cessation support. Medals are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in the 5K.
Event shirts are distributed differently by participant type: WINGS program members receive shirts after the race; registered participants may pick up shirts at packet pickup on race morning; supporters not registered must place shirt orders by May 4 to receive shirts by race day. Shirt colors designate roles: red for stroke survivors and baby blue for participants and supporters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
