Trail of Honor Memorial Run
The Trail of Honor Memorial Run is a road event held in Fort Gibson on May 22. The Fort Gibson American Legion and Trail of Honor Flags organize the event to raise funds for a permanent Trail of Honor that will install 300 flagpoles, each flying a 5x8 American flag. Trail of Honor Flags Inc. was founded in 2019 to continue a display of temporary flags along nearby roads leading to the National Memorial Cemetery.
The event offers two distances:
- 5K
- 1 Mile Fun Run
The course is USATF certified and official timing is provided by I:40 Race Service. Participants may opt to carry an American flag during the run; registrants are asked to indicate this choice at registration.
T shirts are guaranteed for participants who register by May 9. Entries received after that date are fulfilled on a first come first serve basis through race day.
The run supports the Trail of Honor project and is framed as a tribute to veterans and active duty service members. Organizers have reported growth in participant numbers since the event began and have set a target of reaching 500 runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
