Dirty South Trail Races
The Dirty South Trail Races are part of the Knoxville Track Club Treadin’ Trodden Trails series and take place at Mead's Quarry near Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. The event program includes multiple distances:
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- Kids Trail Mile
The half marathon covers 13.1 mile across the Forks of the River Wildlife Area, William Hastie Park, Marie Myers Park, Ross Marble Quarry, Ijams Nature Center, and other sections of the South Knoxville Urban Wilderness. The course combines rocky, technical single track with more flowing mountain bike trails and carries a four hour time limit. The 10K uses main nature center trails and routes in Meads Quarry. The kids race is a separate one mile trail through the woods.
Race operations include aid and water stations with very small cups; participants are encouraged to carry their own water. Course etiquette and insurance rules prohibit headsets, bicycles, baby strollers, roller blades, and pets on the course. Registration is non refundable and bib transfers are not allowed. A special tech shirt will be printed for this race; shirts ordered by November 12 are prioritized and late registrants may receive shirts only while supplies last. Safety policies require runners under 12 to be accompanied by an adult in adult races and enforce a minimum pace of 18:00 per mile with a sweeper on course.
