Dirt Half Challenge
The Dirt Half Challenge takes place in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. This trail event offers two distinct distances for participants:
- Half Marathon: 13.1 miles
- Metric Half Marathon: 13.1 km
The course follows a mix of surfaces, including canal towpaths, woodland paths, and country trails. Runners will navigate uneven terrain and scenic off-road sections along the Grand Union Canal and across the Greensand Ridge. Because of the nature of the trails, the use of trail shoes or standard running shoes is recommended. Both distances have a maximum time limit of 3 hours and 30 minutes.
The race headquarters is located at Cedars Upper School. Facilities include a baggage drop for those using public transport, a coffee van for refreshments, and sports massage services available for a fee. Water stations are positioned along the route, with the 13.1 mile race providing water at miles 3, 7, and 10, while the 13.1 km race has a station at approximately mile 5 and at the finish.
Participants must be at least 17 years old on race day. The event is chip-timed with disposable chips. All finishers receive a medal, and awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in both distances. For those traveling by car, free limited parking is available at the school, with additional paid parking located at the nearby Leighton Buzzard train station.
