Dick Collins Firetrails : overview
Dick Collins Firetrails is an annual trail running event held at Lake Chabot Marina in Castro Valley, CA. The 43rd edition is scheduled for September 26, 2026. The event includes the following races:
- 100k
- 50-mile
- Marathon
All races are listed on the UTMB Index. The Firetrails 50-mile race is part of the Pacific USATF Grand Prix. Organizers plan a course reveal and publication of athlete guides in early 2026; the 2026 course will restore several sections from earlier decades.
Race day logistics and services
Course maps, aid station details, and driving directions are provided on the event site. All courses are marked. Most aid stations are vehicle accessible and are open to crew unless noted otherwise. Pacers are permitted for the 100k and 50-mile races but not for the marathon; pacers must register in advance and provide their own transport to designated entry points. Drop bags are supported and are transported to the Big Bear aid station; they are returned to the finish area only after Big Bear closes in the evening.
Time limits and cutoffs are firm because of East Bay Regional Parks curfew laws; runners who miss cutoffs will be removed from the course. Packet, shirt, and bib pickup is available at Sports Basement Berkeley (2424 Milvia St, Berkeley). Parking at Lake Chabot is charged at $5. Aid stations will offer Skratch sports drink and GU gels. Finishers receive event apparel and finisher items; the 100k finishers also receive a rhino belt buckle. Age group awards are given in 10-year divisions. Volunteers who provide more than six hours of service may be eligible for a future event entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
