Diane Burr Memorial 5K Flag Run/Walk
The 25th annual Diane Burr Memorial 5K Flag Run/Walk takes place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, in Thomaston, CT. The event includes a community fun run and a 5K course that starts on Clay Street behind the Thomaston Opera House. A course map is provided for participants.
The organizing fund was established in 2002 to aid individuals and families affected by cancer. Proceeds support local charities, including the Thomaston Food Pantry and Crisis Fund, and the event has donated to the Thomaston Track and Tennis Facility at Nystrom's Park.
The race also serves as a time to honor veterans and remember those who lost their lives on 9/11. Fifty state flags collected during prior Flag Run events are displayed as a remembrance at the finish line.
Amenities include restrooms, water on course and at the finish, and snacks at the finish line. Commemorative T-shirts are provided to the first 150 registrants, with sizes not guaranteed. Bib and shirt pickup is available in the Thomaston Town Hall back parking lot starting at 12 PM on race day. Parking is available at Town Hall and Center School parking lots. Awards include medals for all fun run participants and trophies for first overall male and female and by age groups.
Registration fees are listed as $30 if registered by 11/7 and $35 for in-person race day registration. The event will occur rain or shine and registrations are nonrefundable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
