Devil After Dark

Devil After Dark is an evening road race on Lovell Canyon Road in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area within the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest. The venue sits at roughly 4,500 feet elevation and features high desert vegetation such as Joshua trees, pinion juniper, mountain rose, and sagebrush.

Distances follow the paved Lovell Canyon Road. The course is twisting, rolling, and gradually uphill and is easy to follow with marked turnarounds for each distance. The marathon uses extended out and back sections and has a seven hour course cutoff.

The course is unlit after sunset; runners on the course after dark are required to wear reflective gear front and back and to carry a headlamp or handheld flashlight. Aid stations are provided at multiple mile points and some aid station locations include portable toilets. All race distances include a technical shirt, finishers medal, post race food, and eligibility for overall and age group awards. Overall awards are awarded three deep by gender and are removed from age group eligibility. Age groups are in ten year increments from under 20 to 70 plus, with youth categories for the 5K and 10K.
