Devil After Dark - Lovell Canyon evening run
Devil After Dark is a late summer evening road race that takes place on Lovell Canyon Road near Las Vegas. The event includes the following distances: Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 10K, and 5K, and is held on land administered as the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
The course begins at roughly 4,500 feet elevation and runs along a paved canyon road that twists and rolls with gradual uphill sections. Vegetation along the route includes Joshua trees, pinion-juniper, mountain rose, and sagebrush, reflecting a high desert and mountain environment. Temperatures on event weekend are noted as warmer during the day and cooler overnight; on-course provisions and aid stations are provided at multiple locations.
The course is unlit after dark; runners who are still on course after nightfall are required to carry lighting and wear front-and-back reflective gear. The start/finish is located at the junction of Lovell Canyon Road and Highway 160, about a 30-minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip. Parking is available near the start area and race day packet pickup is at the start line.
Event services for all distances include a technical shirt, a finisher medal, post-race food, and eligibility for overall and age-group awards. Primitive camping is available at the venue and most hotels are located in the Greater Las Vegas valley. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
