DeSoto County MLK Jr. Unity Walk and 5K
The event is an annual community Unity Walk and 5K Run held in Southaven to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It began as a small walk and has expanded into a regular community event that now includes both a timed 5K run and a 5K walking route. The event is presented in collaboration with the City of Southaven and is supported by the Southaven Mayor's office, the Mayor's Youth Council, the mayors of Walls and Olive Branch, local churches, and citizens of DeSoto County.
Check-in has been moved to the Forever Young Senior Center Multipurpose Room behind the Parks & Recreation offices at 3335 Pine Tar Alley, Southaven, MS 38672.
Proceeds benefit the Precious Pearls Foundation. Funds will assist the foundation in providing support to deserving students in the DeSoto County area, efforts to prevent birth defects and infant mortality, services for the elderly, and support for veterans. The foundation also supports the charity partner Feed My Lambs.
Registration details for the 5K run are provided in advance; registration opens on 2026-06-22 and closes on 2027-01-10, with a registration fee of $35.00.
