Desert Leprechaun 5K & 1 Mile Run/Walk
The Desert Leprechaun is a St. Patrick's Day themed running and walking event held at Curtis Park, 2110 W Curtis Rd, Tucson, AZ. The event features two distances:
- 5K
- 1 Mile
The 5K uses a course described as safe and fast, previously used for Dave's Run for ALS, with start and finish located within Curtis Park. The 5K is included in The Running Shop SAR Grand Prix.
The event supports the Public Safety Charitable Foundation, Children of Fallen Officers, which provides scholarships to local children of fallen public safety personnel. Race-day elements include a costume contest, St. Patrick's Day decorations, themed prizes, and finisher items. The 5K offers a custom finisher medal and custom race shirts while supplies last; all finishers receive St. Patrick's Day themed goodies.
Awards for the 5K include male and female top three overall, top masters, and top three in five-year age groups from 15 through 80 and older, plus categories for ages 1-14 and 80+. Prizes have included gift certificates from The Running Shop and other themed items.
Parking is available around the baseball fields within Curtis Park; participants are asked not to park in front of the Sporting Chance building. The event will not serve beer this year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
