Event Overview

The Desert Leprechaun is a St. Patrick's Day themed running and walking event held at Curtis Park in Tucson. Organized by the Southern Arizona Roadrunners (SAR), the event features two distinct distance options:

  • 5 km
  • 1 mile

The 5 km course is described as a fast and established route previously used for other regional races. This distance is also part of The Running Shop SAR Grand Prix series. Participants in the 5 km receive a custom finisher medal and a race shirt while supplies last.

Activities and Amenities

The event maintains a festive atmosphere with various holiday-themed activities. Participants can take part in a St. Patrick's Day costume contest, and the venue is decorated for the occasion. Awards and themed prizes are provided for the 5 km race across various age groups, ranging from under 14 to over 80.

A packet pickup is held the day before the race at a local running shop, with additional pickup available at the park on the morning of the event. Parking is available near the baseball fields within Curtis Park.

Beneficiary

The event supports the Public Safety Charitable Foundation and the Children of Fallen Officers. These organizations provide scholarships to the children of fallen local heroes, including members of law enforcement, Fire, EMS, and the military.
