Derwent Reservoir Triathlons 2026
The Derwent Reservoir Triathlons take place at the south side of Derwent Reservoir, on the Durham / Northumberland border. The venue is owned by Northumbrian Water. The swim takes place in clear, calm reservoir water. The cycle uses quiet, scenic country lanes and the run follows mostly flat paths and trails.
Event formats include sprint and standard triathlons plus aquabike options. Relay entries are available and there are no cut-off times.
- Sprint Triathlon: Swim 750m, Cycle 22km, Run 5km
- Standard Triathlon: Swim 1,500m, Cycle 39km, Run 10km
- Sprint Aquabike: Swim 750m, Cycle 22km
- Standard Aquabike: Swim 1,500m, Cycle 39km
Wetsuits are expected to be optional if water temperatures are warm, but a wetsuit is recommended for comfort and buoyancy for less experienced swimmers. The transition area is secure and for competitors only; race numbers and bike numbers must match racking numbers, small bags or boxes are allowed, helmets and bike numbers must be in place before entering, and numbers may be checked before exit.
Live chip timing is provided by Timing Up North. All finishers receive a Derwent Triathlon medal, Wild Deer merchandise and a snack and drink. A commemorative event T-shirt is offered for £12. Parking is available at Derwent Waterside Park and is charged at £3 per vehicle; expect a 10 to 15 minute walk from the car park to the event area.
