Event Overview
The Derwent Reservoir Triathlons take place on the Durham and Northumberland border at a site owned by Northumbrian Water. The event is hosted at the south side of the reservoir, specifically near the dam in Edmundbyers. Participants can choose between various multisport formats, and there are no cut-off times enforced for any of the distances.
Course Details
The competition consists of a swim in the calm waters of the reservoir, followed by a cycling leg on quiet country lanes. The final stage involves running on flat paths and trails. Available race distances and formats include:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 22km cycle, and 5km run.
- Standard Triathlon: 1,500m swim, 39km cycle, and 10km run.
- Sprint Aquabike: 750m swim and 22km cycle.
- Standard Aquabike: 1,500m swim and 39km cycle.
Relay options are also available for both the Sprint and Standard triathlon distances.
Participant Information
The event uses live chip-timing. A secure transition area is provided where participants must match their race and bike numbers to a specific racking number. Helmets are mandatory during the cycling portion. While water temperatures often make wetsuits optional, they are recommended for comfort and buoyancy. All finishers receive a medal, merchandise, and refreshments. Parking is located at Derwent Waterside Park, which is approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the main event area.
