About the race
Wicklow Weekend: Derrybawn Trail is a trail race in Derrybawn woods, County Wicklow, organised by the Irish Mountain Running Association. The main course covers 9.00 km with approximately 350 m of climb; a short course of 4.80 km with 190 m of climb is used for juniors.
The route starts near the Greenroad close to the Woollen Mills outlet, climbs on a series of fireroads until it meets the Wicklow Way, follows a short steep ascent and a detour onto another trail, then descends on trail and single track before a fast fireroad finish. The short course climbs for about 2.5 km on fireroad before a speedy descent.
Practical details: entry fees vary by age category, the event is capped at 200 competitors to comply with permit conditions, and the route is fully marked. GPS devices are allowed. Mandatory Level B kit must be carried and may be checked; required items include a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Organisers will confirm the exact kit to carry on the day.
Registration and prizegiving take place at Laragh GAA. Camping and parking are available in a field near Glenmalure Lodge on the Friday and Saturday before the race; camping is free for IMRA members only, at owner’s risk, with coin-operated showers, portaloos, and BBQs allowed but no open fires.
