DENFIT 1776
DENFIT 1776 is an annual July 4 running event at Cape Vincent East End Waterfront Park in Cape Vincent, NY. The course runs through the village and along the river to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse and is described as flat and fast. Two event options follow the same route.
- 7.76 miles: out and back to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse.
- 17.76 miles: two laps, carry a 3x5 ft American flag on a pole entire distance.
All participants must display an American flag while running the 7.76 mile option; Challenge participants must carry a 3x5 ft flag on a pole for the full 17.76 miles. Runners who complete the Challenge earn a 4 ft custom spear as noted by the organizer.
Registration opens on 2026-07-08 and closes on 2027-04-29. Fees published for the listed events are $50.00 for the 7.76 mile race and $74.04 for the 17.76 mile Challenge. The event is largely self-supported and includes one aid station at the lighthouse turnaround.
Every participant receives a t-shirt and a medal and will be provided light refreshments after completing the course. A 4th of July Bike Parade at Rec Park takes place as the 1776 concludes, with over a hundred children carrying flags through town. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
