Event overview

The Deam Lake Loop Trail Run takes place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Deam Lake State Recreation Area in Borden, Indiana (1217 Deam Lake Rd). The event offers the following distances:

  • 10K Trail Race
  • 5K Trail Race
  • 10K Trail Walk/Hike
  • 5K Trail Walk/Hike

Early bird registration is available at a reduced fee if completed before April 1. Packet pickup is held at the Forest Education Center the day before the race and on race morning.

Course and safety

Both courses start near the Park Office and Forest Education Center and use sections of the Deam Lake Loop Trail. The 10K follows the full loop counter-clockwise, crosses a road at about mile 0.9, and includes several gradual to steep climbs and small creek crossings; it is described as moderately challenging. The 5K follows the southern loop counter-clockwise, connects to the Knobstone Trail near mile 1.8, crosses the dam, and finishes via parking lot and Deam Lake Road for the final half mile. One aid station is planned on the 10K at about mile 3.4, plus an aid point at the finish. The trail is multi-use; participants may encounter horses, cyclists, and other users and are asked to follow posted guidance when passing.

Logistics and sustainability

The race begins and ends at the Forest Education Center and Park Office. Primary parking is at the Forest Education Center with overflow at the gravel lot by the boat ramp. The event is cupless; reusable HydraPak SpeedCups are provided at packet pickup and cup-filling stations are available on course and at the finish. Shirt giveaway is optional; wooden laser-engraved finisher medals are planned. Staff and volunteers will monitor course conditions and traffic control measures will be in place at road crossings.
