Dead Man's Run 5K
Dead Man’s Run is Congressional Cemetery’s annual fall 5K fundraiser held inside the cemetery and extending onto the Anacostia Trail. The event follows a themed format with a toll of the funeral bell at the start and evening music and sound elements along the course.
Costumes are encouraged; organizers award prizes for best individual costume and best team costume. Teams may register together and use creative team names.
The course is flat, described as fast, and is USATF certified. The start and finish are located within the cemetery and the route uses the adjoining Anacostia Trail for a short out-and-back section. Water is provided at the start/finish area and at a midpoint water stop.
All proceeds from the race support the cemetery’s nonprofit work and the preservation of the National Historic Landmark. The event is held rain or shine; there is no rain date. Organizers state they are unable to offer refunds or race transfers.
Registration for the event opens July 23rd. The event is presented as a fundraiser tied to the cemetery’s programs and preservation efforts, with sponsorship support from community partners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
