About the race
2027 DC New Year’s 5k and 10k takes place on January 1, 2027 in Georgetown, Washington DC at 3530 Water St NW. Points from the event count toward the Year Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack series, and toward the Winter Series.

Both distances run along the C&O Canal on a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change in an out and back format. Walkers and strollers are welcome. A virtual run option is offered for those who cannot attend in person.
Runners receive a finisher medal, a technical Drifit event shirt, and the race is chip timed. T shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before December 18; extra shirts are available afterward on a first come basis. Registration fees listed by the organizer are: 5k $35 until December 15 then $40, and 10k $50 until December 15 then $55. Prices increase on race morning.
Water stations are placed at approximately mile markers 1.5 on the 5k and at 1.55, 3.1, and 4.6 on the 10k; Gatorade is available at some stations. Packet pickup is available at the event. There is no on site race registration for this event.
Live results are posted online and via a QR code at the race. Final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to top finishers in age groups ages 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and older. The race benefits City Dogs and City Kitties Rescue. The organizer reserves the right to delay change or postpone the event for weather or safety reasons.
