DC New Year's 5K & 10K
The event is scheduled for January 1, 2027, in Georgetown at 3530 Water St NW, Washington, DC. It offers two chip timed distances that run along the C&O Canal on a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change, following an out-and-back layout.

Walkers and strollers are welcome. A virtual race option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack series, and toward the Winter Series.
Registered runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical Drifit event shirt, and chip timing. The race benefits City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue, a nonprofit that rescues animals from overcrowded, under-resourced shelters and places them in adoptive homes in the Washington, DC area.
Support and logistics include water stations (three along the 10k at approximately miles 1.55, 3.1, and 4.6; one on the 5k at approximately mile 1.5) with Gatorade available at some stations, and port-a-johns near the check-in area. Packet pickup is available at the event; there will be no on-site race registration. Live results are posted to Athlinks with a QR code at the race, and final results with series points are published the Monday after the event.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place male and female runners in standard age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
