The Dash for the Dogs 13th Annual 5K Run/Walk takes place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Barrington, Illinois at 511 Lake Zurich Road, Jewel Tea Pavilion. The event schedule includes the following distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Family Fun Walk
The 5K is certified and timed by J3 Timing. Dogs may participate in the 5K but must be up to date on vaccinations and be well-behaved around other animals and people. The 1 Mile Family Fun Walk follows the 5K. Check-in and the race start are located at the Jewel Tea Pavilion. Children under 10 are free.
Charity, registration and awards
The event raises funds for the dogs and cats cared for at Animal House Shelter. One hundred percent of proceeds go to the shelter. Animal House Shelter is a 501(c)(3); donations are tax deductible. The shelter, founded in June 2002, rescues homeless animals (including animals from high kill facilities), rehabilitates them, and matches them with adopters. It also accepts some owner relinquishments.
Registration pricing is tiered with a pre-registration rate of $35 until April 13, 2026, and a higher fee on the day of the race. Awards include first place male and female overall, and top three male and female finishers in each age group (14 & under; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 and over). Medals are available immediately after the race at the award table. The first two dogs to finish receive prizes. Participants may create fundraising pages to support the shelter.
