Event Overview
The Dash for the Dogs is an annual 5K run/walk event. Its primary purpose is to raise funds for the dogs and cats under the care of Animal House Shelter. The event includes a 1 Mile Family Fun Walk that starts directly after the 5K.
Event Details
Participants can run or walk the 5K distance. Dogs are allowed to participate, but they must be up to date on all vaccinations and be well-behaved around other animals and people. The first two dogs to cross the finish line receive prizes.
The event is certified and timed by J3 Timing. Registration includes a 2026 Dash for the Dogs T-shirt, available while supplies last. Children under 10 can participate for free.
Awards are given to the top male and female finishers. The top three male and female finishers in each age group also receive awards. Age groups are: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. Medals are available immediately after the race at an award table near the finish line.
Location and Registration
The event takes place at 511 Lake Zurich Road, at the Jewel Tea Pavilion in Barrington, Illinois. Race check-in and the start are at the same location.
Registration fees increase over time. Pre-registration is $35 until April 13, 2026, then $40 from April 14 to May 16, 2026. The fee on race day, May 17, 2026, is $50. The 1 Mile Family Fun Walk registration is $25.
All proceeds from the event go directly to Animal House Shelter, a 501(c)(3) no-kill animal shelter. Participants are invited to create their own fundraising pages to support the cause. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
