Dartmouth Triathlon
The Dartmouth Triathlon takes place at Blackpool Sands Beach and celebrates its 12th anniversary. The event features multiple multisport formats and standalone swimming races. Participants in the triathlon and aquabike categories start with a sea swim in the waters of Blackpool Sands, followed by a circular bike course. The standard distance requires two laps of the bike circuit, while the sprint distance consists of a single lap.
The run course follows an out and back route along Blackpool Valley Road. This path runs alongside a stream and features a gentle incline toward the turnaround point. A second transition area, or bike drop, is located on the other side of the A379 to ensure the run course does not require a road crossing. Registration for the triathlon events is limited to 350 participants.
Available distances and formats include:
- Standard Triathlon: 1500m swim, 35km bike, and 10km run
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 17.5km bike, and 5km run
- Standard Aquabike: 1500m swim and 35km bike
- Sprint Aquabike: 750m swim and 17.5km bike
- Sprint Triathlon Relay: 750m swim, 17.5km bike, and 5km run for teams
- Sea Swims: 750m, 1500m, and 3km distances held on Saturday evening
The event provides electronic chip timing including transition splits, feed stations, and numbered racking. Participants receive a silicone swim hat, a water bottle, and a finisher medal. Water safety is managed by the Teignmouth Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Camping at Blackpool Sands is available the night before the race for an additional charge.
