Dartmoor Volcano Race
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is a specialized trail running event held on Dartmoor. The course covers a distance of 10.5 miles consisting entirely of trail surfaces. This high-level route involves approximately 650 meters of total ascent and descends across rough moorland tracks and trails.
The course is designed to traverse various natural features in southern Dartmoor. Participants encounter three river crossings, one clapper bridge crossing, and two boggy sections. The route touches the highest point in southern Dartmoor, Ryder's Hill, which stands at an elevation of 515 meters. A central feature of the event is the ascent of the Red Lake Volcano.
The event starts and finishes in the village of Scorriton. The location is situated on the edge of Dartmoor, approximately 4 miles from the A38 Buckfastleigh-Ashburton junction. The course is fully marked and marshaled for the duration of the event.

The race is open to individuals aged 17 or older on the day of the event. Participants receive a bespoke medal upon finishing. Due to insurance and permit regulations, dogs are not permitted to accompany competitors on the course.
