Dartmoor Volcano Race
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is the 10th edition of an off-road event held on the edge of Dartmoor near the village of Scorriton, TQ11 0JB. The course is a high-level, 100 percent trail route covering 10.5 mile with almost 650 m of ascent. It passes the southern moorland high point Ryder's Hill (515 m) and approaches the Red Lake Volcano, which forms the focal point of the route.
The terrain is rocky, boggy and at times technically demanding. The course layout includes three river crossings, one clapper bridge crossing, two bog sections, a volcano ascent, a long uphill start section and a long downhill finish. The route is fully marked and marshaled by experienced trail runners.
The event is organised under Trail Running Association guidelines and runs under UKA rules with permission from Dartmoor National Park Authority and the relevant land owners. Minimum age on race day is 17 years. All finishers receive a bespoke Volcano Race medal. Event T-shirts can be purchased through the race entry system and collected on race day. A mandatory kit list applies and details are provided by the organisers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
