Devon and Cornwall Backyard Ultra

The Devon and Cornwall Backyard Ultra is an endurance event based on a simple repeating format. Participants must run a loop of 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour. Each circuit must be completed in less than 60 minutes. Any time remaining within the hour after finishing a lap is typically used for recovery before the next circuit begins at the top of the next hour.

The event continues until only one runner remains capable of completing a lap within the time limit. This individual is declared the winner. The current course record for this specific event stands at 30 laps. The format allows participants to reach various distance milestones, such as a half marathon, marathon, 100 km, or 100 miles, depending on the number of laps they choose to complete.

The event is organized by Bowel Cancer West, and all funds raised from entry fees are used to support individuals living with bowel cancer, as well as to fund research and training. The venue provides several facilities to improve accessibility, including an accessible toilet and stoma-friendly sanitary bins. An ad hoc hair plaiting service is also provided on-site.

Camping is included in the entry fee and is available from the Friday before the race until the Monday morning after the event concludes. Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
