Event details

Dartmoor Prison Break is scheduled for 30 to 31 May 2026 at HMP Dartmoor. The event challenges participants to travel the furthest straight-line distance on foot from the prison within a set time. Route choice is individual but must use public rights of way. The event offers three time-limited categories: 6hr Absconder, 12hr Delinquent, and 24hr Felon. All participants are monitored for the full event by a GPS tracker, and friends and family can view individual progress. The event is organised by the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team. Entry, rules and equipment

Entries open 1 October 2025 and close 15 May 2026. Entry fees are £45 for the 6hr Absconder, £55 for the 12hr Delinquent, and £65 for the 24hr Felon. Minimum age for all courses is 18 years. There will be a mandatory pre-event equipment check and a mandatory kit requirement that includes a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, head torch with spare power, mobile phone, compass and maps or digital mapping, whistle, water carriage, hat, gloves, spare base layer, emergency food, emergency foil blanket, and a first aid kit. Medals are awarded to all escapees. Previous participants have reached locations such as Marazion in Cornwall and areas near Bristol.
