Dartmoor Prison Break
The Dartmoor Prison Break is an endurance event starting at HMP Dartmoor. Participants begin with a mass breakout and attempt to travel as far as possible on foot within a specific timeframe. The final score is calculated based on the straight-line distance, or "as the crow flies," from the starting point to the participant's location at the end of the time limit.
Participants are responsible for determining their own routes but must remain on public rights of way. During the event, staff members acting as wardens patrol the area. All entrants are monitored for the duration of the event by a GPS tracker device, which allows third parties to follow their progress remotely.
There are three distinct categories available:
- 6hr Absconder - An event for participants aged 18 and older.
- 12hr Delinquent - A long distance event for participants aged 18 and older.
- 24hr Felon - A full day endurance event for participants aged 18 and older.
The event requires a mandatory equipment check before starting. The kit list includes a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a head torch with spare batteries, a mobile phone, a compass, mapping tools, a whistle, a water bladder or bottles, a hat, gloves, a spare long sleeve base layer, emergency food, an emergency foil blanket, and a first aid kit. All finishers receive a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
