Dartmoor Prison Break (30–31 May 2026)
Dartmoor Prison Break is an outdoor navigation event based at HMP Dartmoor. The event runs across two days, with participants choosing their own route from the start location. The aim is to achieve the furthest straight-line distance on foot within a time limit while remaining on public rights of way. The event is organised by Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.
Format and rules
There are three timed categories: 6 hour Absconder, 12 hour Delinquent, and 24 hour Felon. The minimum age for all courses is 18. All participants are fitted with a GPS tracker and are monitored for the full duration. Friends and family can view individual progress. Route choice is individual but restricted to public rights of way. A mandatory pre-event equipment check takes place and a kit list is required, including waterproof jacket and trousers, head torch and spare batteries, mobile phone, compass and maps or digital mapping, whistle, water, hat, gloves, spare base layer, emergency food, emergency foil blanket, and a first aid kit. Medals are awarded to all finishers.
