Dartmoor Prison Break
Dartmoor Prison Break is an outdoor timed challenge held at HMP Dartmoor on 30 to 31 May 2026. The objective is to travel the furthest straight-line distance on foot from the prison within a set time. Participants choose their own routes but must remain on public rights of way; tunnelling or using constructed aids is not permitted. Wardens will be present and may attempt to intercept participants during the event.
There are three timed categories: 6 hour Absconder, 12 hour Delinquent, and 24 hour Felon. All categories require entrants to be 18 years or older. Entries open on 1 October 2025 and close on 15 May 2026. Entry fees are £45 for the 6 hour, £55 for the 12 hour, and £65 for the 24 hour category. Medals are awarded to all finishers.
All participants will be monitored for the full duration by a GPS tracker device; friends and family can follow individual progress. A mandatory kit list applies and will be checked before the event; required items include waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, head torch with spare batteries, mobile phone, compass and maps or digital mapping, whistle, water, warm clothing, emergency food and foil blanket, and a first aid kit. The event includes pre-event equipment checks and has published terms and a cancellation policy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
