Dartmoor Prison Break
Dartmoor Prison Break is an overnight escape challenge from HMP Dartmoor that runs across 30 to 31 May 2026. Participants leave the prison site and aim to achieve the furthest straight line distance on foot within a chosen time limit. Routes must use public rights of way.
There are three timed courses and all require entrants to be at least 18 years old:
- 6 hour Absconder, age 18 or older, entry £45
- 12 hour Delinquent, age 18 or older, entry £55
- 24 hour Felon, age 18 or older, entry £65
All participants carry a GPS tracker for the full event so friends and family can monitor individual progress. Wardens will be present and may attempt to catch participants during the event. A mandatory pre-event equipment check takes place and medals are awarded to all who complete the event.
Entries open 1 October 2025 and close 15 May 2026. The event is organised by Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team. The organisers state that tunnelling or constructing gliders is not permitted and that individual route choice is controlled by the requirement to stay on public rights of way.
