Dark Skies Run @ Wooler 10K
The event on 31st October 2026 is a night 10 kilometre trail run or walk that starts and finishes at Wooler Hostel and runs up and around Humbleton Hillfort in the Cheviot Hills, North Northumberland. At that time of year there should be a view of the Milky Way from the Cheviot Hills and the surrounding area.
The course distance is 10 km with about 1,575 ft of ascent and 1,600 ft of descent. Checkpoints are listed at the start (Wooler Hostel), at Humbleton (2.0 km) and at the finish (Wooler Hostel). The route will be fully marked and marshalled, but navigation remains the responsibility of participants. The race or walk must be completed within three hours.
Entry includes a bespoke medal, electronic timing and instant online results supplied by TOTS, feed stations offering water and sweets, medical cover, free event parking and free digital photography. All finishers receive a medal and race memento; a race t shirt is available to purchase. Prizes are awarded for male and female category placings.
Mandatory kit must be carried for the event and includes a whistle, a head or chest torch or waist torch, a survival bag or foil blanket, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket, at least 500 ml of water, a personal cup, emergency food and a fully charged phone. Dogs are not allowed. Earphone use is restricted at road crossings, checkpoints and where marshals request removal. Littering or serious rule breaches will result in disqualification.
