Dark Horse Trail Series (26.2 - 13.1 - 10k)
The Dark Horse Trail Series stages three trail events at the Tryon Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, NC (25 International Blvd). The course is a 6.5-mile loop that runs through the equestrian center on wide packed dirt paths, single-track trails and meadows, with about 600 feet of elevation gain per loop.
- 26.2 miles Marathon
- 13.1 miles Half Marathon
- 10k
Packet pickup is at the start/finish area beginning one hour before each event. The marathon has a 6-hour course cutoff and requires runners to begin the final loop before 5 hours. There is one aid station at the start/finish offering pickles, cookies, chips, fig newtons, pretzels and hydration (water, Coke, ginger ale); this is a cup-less event so participants should bring their own hydration vessel.
Participant camping and personal aid stations are available during registration; camping sites have no water or power. Drop bags may be placed at the start/finish area and should be labeled with name and bib number. Participant parking is accessed via the main gate; follow the driveway to participant parking near the start/finish and the General Store. Amenities visible from the start/finish include a breakfast diner, coffee shop, convenience store, bars and indoor bathrooms.
Registration includes a tour of the equestrian center, finisher medal, park entry, custom bib and tattoo, event giveaways and sticker, complimentary race photos, music and a post-race area. Chip timing with splits and live results is provided. Awards include top-three overall trophies and age-group medals; age categories span from 0–9 through 80+.
