Event overview
The Dam Yeti is an annual trail running event near Abingdon, Virginia held over a weekend in June. The event offers multiple race distances:
- 50 Mile - point-to-point on the Virginia Creeper Trail; USATF certified course VA19002MS.
- 55K - follows the Virginia Creeper Trail on crushed gravel.
- 25K Pepsi Challenge - a separate Sunday event finishing at The Meadows.
Race timing is provided by ZEN ARCADE TIMING. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the races at Sweetbay Brewing Co. Drop bags are available for the 50 Mile. Pacers are allowed for the 50 Mile from specified trailheads; pacers for the 55K must be registered.
Course and logistics
The course runs along the Virginia Creeper Trail, includes trestles, rolling hills, farms, and streams, and is primarily crushed gravel. Aid stations listed include Taylors Valley, Damascus, Alvarado, Watagua (water, soda, light snacks), and the finish. Crew access points differ by distance; for example, the 55K allows crew at Damascus, Alvarado, and the finish. Mandatory equipment includes a hydration pack or bottle (16 oz minimum), 500 calories of fuel, and a reusable cup because the event is cupless. Unapproved crew on bikes will cause disqualification. The event publishes cutoff limits per distance and includes entry and accommodation policies for Athletes With Disabilities with specified criteria.
