Dalton Dash 5 Miler, Dalton PA
The Dalton Dash is a revived road race held in Dalton, Pennsylvania. The main event covers 5.25 miles and the race was brought back in 2021 after a long hiatus. One hundred percent of race proceeds are used for town beautification projects; prior proceeds funded Christmas lights in the town square. The event highlights local community resources and allocates funds back into the area.
The course features 302 feet of elevation change concentrated mostly in the first half, with several notable climbs followed by a tapered downhill to the finish. The route has only five turns, ample signage, and volunteers at each turn to assist navigation. There are two water stations on course and bananas available. Local Dalton Police assist with traffic management. The roads and countryside views along the route are described as picturesque.
Race logistics and amenities include a start and finish location across from the Dalton Fire Company in Platt Park, required pre registration and pre payment with no race day registration, and a standard registration fee of $38. A $5 fee applies for a race shirt and shirts are not guaranteed for registrations after May 10. Walkers are welcome and a generous cut off time is provided. First through third place male and female overall receive a medal. Parking is available along downtown roads and behind the Dalton Fire Company. Awards are distributed after the race closes, and the town holds an annual reading of veterans names at the memorial park after the event.
