About the race
The Daily News Press Run in Galveston is a community road race supporting the Newspapers in Education program. The event includes certified Galveston Causeway courses with professional chip timing and begins and ends at The Daily News building at 8522 Teichman Road, Galveston.
Distances:
- Kid's 1K
- 5K (USATF certified)
- 10K (USATF certified)
The course follows the causeway north, includes an exit at Tiki Island for a turnaround, and returns along the same route. Timing chips are attached to bibs; bibs must be worn on the front of the shirt, left visible, and are non transferable. A small replacement fee is charged for lost bibs. All finishers receive a custom finisher medal; awards are given to overall winners and to top finishers by age division in the 5K and 10K. All 1K participants receive a medal.
Event features include a Kid's Zone with bouncy houses, arts and crafts, and face painting; a book character costume contest judged in separate children and adult groups with donated prizes; dozens of vendor booths; music; and food. A bag drop service is available for a modest donation to the Newspapers in Education program. Packet pick up is offered the day before at The Daily News and on race day at the same location.
The race supports classroom literacy by funding the Newspapers in Education program and addressing a teacher waiting list for participation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
