Cumberland Valley TrailFest
Cumberland Valley TrailFest is a community festival held on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail at Shippensburg Station in Shippensburg, PA. The event includes multiple trail activities on paved rail-trail sections between Shippensburg and Newville and serves as a fundraiser for the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council.
Participants can choose among these distances and activities:
- Half Marathon out-and-back on the rail trail.
- 5k Run out-and-back on the paved trail extension.
- 10 Mile Hike from Newville to Shippensburg with a return transport option.
- 25 Mile Bike Ride out-and-back along the finished trail.
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk free for kids.
Registration for most events includes one free craft beer, craft soda, or wine and a free event t-shirt; the 1 Mile is free and not eligible for the free beverage or shirt. Guaranteed t-shirt orders require registration by September 20. The hike requires pre-registration by September 20 so transportation can be arranged; a water stop is provided in Oakville. Rest stops and a snack are noted for the bike ride.
The festival features a beer garden serving craft beverages, live music, and food trucks. All proceeds support CVRTC for trail maintenance, trail extension toward Carlisle and Chambersburg, and the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
