About the race
The Cumberland Valley TrailFest is a community festival of trail events held at Shippensburg Station on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. Events take place on the paved rail trail and use an out-and-back format that traverses nearly 13 miles of completed trail between Shippensburg and Newville.
Event options include:
- Half Marathon
- 5k Run
- 10 Mile Hike
- 25 Mile Bike Ride
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk (free for kids)
Registered participants (except the free 1 mile) receive one complimentary craft beer, craft soda, or wine and a free event t-shirt. Registrations made by September 20 are guaranteed a t-shirt or a tech shirt upgrade; a "Keystone Trees Not Tees" option donates the shirt value to the Keystone Tree Fund instead of providing a shirt. The 10 mile hike includes transportation from Shippensburg Station to Newville and a water stop in Oakville; hikers must pre-register by September 20 to arrange transportation. Rest stops and a snack are provided for the bike ride. A beer garden, live music, and food trucks are part of the festival offerings.
All proceeds benefit the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) that maintains the rail trail, supports trail extensions toward Carlisle and Chambersburg, and cares for the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum.
