Crystal Springs Ultra Races
The Crystal Springs Ultra Races on August 8, 2026 take place at Crystal Springs Recreation Area in Wytheville, Virginia and are organized by SWVA Running. The event uses a loop course that runs on the Crystal Springs Loop Trail, Boundary Trail, High Rocks Spur Trail, High Rocks Trail, and a connecting fire road and waterline trail.
Distances and options include:
- 12 hour and 6 hour: one loop 12.8 miles, 2,008 ft gain
- 3 hour Crystal Light: one loop 4.0 miles, 774 ft gain
- The Leftover Option: $25 entry, limited to 10 runners, no shirt or swag
The trails include technical sections and varied terrain. The course is described as a loop for all options. Limited parking at the recreation area requires use of a shuttle; the shuttle parking address is 180 Pump Hollow Road and there is no parking at the start line at 723 Pump Hollow Road.
This is a cupless race so participants must carry a collapsible cup or bottle. Aid stations provide PB&J sandwiches, bananas, pretzels, cookies, hard candy, a limited number of gels, and hot food at selected stations. There are no refunds of entry fees; transfers to another runner or between distances are allowed with conditions, and rollovers are permitted for medical reasons including pregnancy and post partum.
Awards are given for 1st through 3rd Overall in Male, Female, and Nonbinary categories. Volunteer shifts earn a race shirt and potential entry credit for future races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
