Event
The SPASM Crystal Springs Trail Run takes place in Woodside, California at Huddart Park, King's Mountain and Bear Gulch. Event distances include:
- 8K
- Half Marathon
- 35K
- Marathon
- 50K
- Kid's Run (6 years & younger, 50 yd dash)
- Coastal Testing
Check-in occurs on race day at Huddart Park (Werder Shelter). Parking is $6 per vehicle; exact change is recommended. No dogs are allowed in the park or on the course. Shirts are guaranteed for those who register at least 10 business days before the event.
Course and logistics
The course passes through redwoods and ferns on single-track trails, dirt roads, and some asphalt. Distances were measured with a Rolatape surveyor's wheel. Elevation gain by distance: 8K 710', Half Marathon 2,190', 35K 2,990', Marathon 3,790', 50K 4,530'. Single-track makes up the majority of longer courses.
The route is marked with colored ribbon and polka-dot flagging to indicate turns; blue ribbons mark wrong directions. Headphones are allowed only on dirt road sections and are not allowed on single-track, when crossing paved roads, at aid stations, or at the finish. Aid stations are fully stocked every 5 to 9 miles with fruit, salty snacks, candy, water, and Skratch electrolyte drink. Runners are advised to carry at least 20 oz of water between aid stations. The event is cupless; participants should bring their own fluid container.
Timing and awards
All events have a 9-hour overall time limit. Marathon and 50K have additional cut-offs at the Bear Gulch aid station (11 miles). Pre-registered runners receive T-shirts. All finishers receive a custom medal; 50K finishers also receive a custom coaster. Top three overall male and female finishers per distance receive awards and race credits; age-group top three receive medals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
