The Cross-Connecticut Run for Mental Health Awareness

The Cross-Connecticut Run for Mental Health Awareness is a group running challenge held on September 12, 2026. In its eighth year, the event is a fundraiser for Mental Health Connecticut and asks participants to donate or raise funds rather than pay an entry fee.

The route follows the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail from its northern end in West Suffield to the harbor in New Haven, a distance of roughly 56 miles. The course passes through rural, suburban, and urban areas and is described as very flat and paved for most of its length.

This trek is unsupported in the traditional race sense. Organizers provide a digital map with mile markers that correspond to convenience stores and other stops. Volunteers will operate several basic aid stations with a focus on safety; runners should expect minimal provisions and bring their own cup. Aid station staffing and availability cannot be guaranteed.

Participants must be self-sufficient and confident in completing the roughly 56 mile journey on their own. There is a hard cut-off of 14 hours to finish; runners not at the southern-most end of the Stop & Shop Plaza in Hamden (approx. mile 50) by 12 hours will be removed for safety. Runners must arrange their own transportation to the start and from the finish, and organizers may offer ride-sharing assistance but not on the day of the event. Required gear includes a headlamp, spare batteries, hydration, a cell phone and a backup charger. Runners are responsible for their own health, safety, and contingency plans for emergencies or dropping out.

Finishers will receive recognition for completing the end-to-end crossing and organizers may provide swag if additional funds become available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
