CraggRunner Sprint 5k
The CraggRunner Sprint 5k takes place at the Steven Burke Sports Hub in Nelson. This event is part of a four-race series held throughout the year, with participants having the option to enter individual races or the entire series. The course is situated at a cycle hub and features a flat surface.
The event consists of several distances to accommodate different age groups:
- 5 km (Main event for participants aged 15 and older)
- 3 km (Junior race for under 14s)
- 2 km (Junior race for under 12s)
- 1 km (Junior race for under 10s)
The senior 5 km event is organized into six separate heats based on predicted finishing times. Runners are allocated to specific heats to ensure they run with others of a similar pace, with the schedule typically progressing from slower to faster heats.
The race utilizes electronic chip timing. Results from the competition are submitted to official ranking platforms, including Run Britain and Power of 10. For the junior categories, medals are awarded to the top three boys and girls in each specific age group race.
On-site facilities include portable toilets and water stations accessible before and after the races. As there is no parking available on the Sports Hub field, participants are required to find parking on the surrounding local roads. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
