Event Overview
The Coquet River Sprint Triathlon & Aquabike takes place at The Braid in Amble. This multi-sport competition is an adult-only event open to participants aged 18 and over. The competition offers two distinct formats sharing a specific course layout in and around the River Coquet.
Course Details
The event features a tidal river swim followed by a cycling segment and, for triathlon participants, a final run.
- Sprint Triathlon: A 750m swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run.
- Sprint Aquabike: A 750m swim and a 20km bike ride.
The swim section occurs in the River Coquet. Due to the tidal nature and water temperatures similar to the North Sea, wetsuits are typically compulsory or strongly recommended. The bike leg follows a 20km out and back route on public, non-closed roads where participants must adhere to the Highway Code. The run consists of a two-lap course measuring 5km total, held on a mixture of grass, track, and pavement.
Participant Information
Electronic chip timing is used for all competitors. Participants who are not members of the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) are required to obtain a race pass. Limited parking is available at The Braid, and car sharing is encouraged by the organizers. After the race, refreshments including tea, coffee, and cake are provided at the local yacht club. Recognition is given to the top three finishers in the open and female categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
