Twin Anchors Copperhead Beer Relay 20K and Beer Mile
The event takes place Saturday August 22, 2026 at the Briar Patch Hunting property near Poplar Grove Plantation in Hampstead, NC (12706 US-17, 28443). The main course is made of a 5K loop that participants repeat four times to complete the 20K distance. The route runs through wooded terrain where participants may encounter natural obstacles.
Before each 5K lap participants may choose to consume a 12 ounce beer or chocolate milk. Each beer consumed before a lap carries a 2 minute time deduction; the beer option is restricted to participants aged 21 and over. Chocolate milk is offered as a nonalcoholic alternative.
The event format includes individual and team options. Individuals run all four 5K laps. Teams may be composed of 2, 3, or 4 members for the 20K relay. Additional timed events on the same day include a Beer Mile and a Donut Mile. There is also a combined entry called Double Copperhead Trouble which pairs the Beer Mile with the 20K individual; athletes who enter both are scored in both events and in the combined category.
Results for the 20K individual and team relay use age graded scoring. A participant handicap guide is published with adjustments such as a 10% women adjustment and age group percentages ranging from 5% for youth to increasing values for older age brackets.
