About the race

The Connecticut Ultra Traverse is a point to point trail running event offering two distance options and running along the blue blazes of the New England Trail through Connecticut.

Distances

  • 112 miles: follows the New England Trail blue blazes from the MA-CT border to Guilford.
  • 50 miles: follows the Mattabesset and Menuncatuck trails from MUT's End to Guilford.

The course passes through many named features and parks, including Suffield Mountain, Peak Mountain, Hatchet Hill, Penwood State Park, Heublein Tower, Rattlesnake Mountain, Pinnacle Rock, Ragged Mountain, Castle Craig, Chauncey Peak, Powder Ridge, Bluff Head, Cockaponset State Forest, East River Preserve, and the Guilford Point waterfront. The route is not marked except by the blue blazes; runners must navigate and follow the blazes. Roads on the route are open to traffic, and crews meet runners at road crossings.

Support is self-organized: entrants are expected to arrange dedicated crews who act as rolling aid stations. Organizers provide guidance and spreadsheets but runners must manage their own safety and support. The event supports the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association; entrants may make a donation of $112 or $100 to CFPA, and donations are nonrefundable. The race director may deny entry or require a runner to leave the course if requested by landowners or law enforcement.

The course includes significant technical trail and at least 16,722 feet of vertical gain; many finishers take between 30 and 45 hours to complete the longer route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
