Connecticut Ultra Traverse (CUT112)

The Connecticut Ultra Traverse is a point to point trail running event offering two route options. Distances follow the Blue Blazes of the New England Trail and conclude at the Long Island Sound in Guilford, Connecticut.

  • 112 miles - New England Trail from the MA-CT border to Guilford waterfront
  • 50 miles - Mattabesset and Menuncatuck trails from MUT's End to Guilford

The course is not marked except for the blue blazes. Runners must navigate themselves, follow the blue blazes, and be prepared for open road crossings and trail navigation at night. The route includes many named features and preserves such as Suffield Mountain, Peak Mountain, Penwood State Park, Ragged Mountain, Castle Craig, Chauncey Peak, Powder Ridge, Cockaponset State Forest, East River Preserve, and Guilford Point. The route will change slightly as trails change.

Support is runner-driven. Entrants are expected to arrange a dedicated crew to meet them at road crossings and carry gear; the organizers provide spreadsheets and guidance. To finalize entry runners are required to send a donation to the Connecticut Forest and Park Association: $112 for the 112 mile option and $100 for the 50 mile option. Donations are nonrefundable. There are no formal permits or formal prizes, though 112 mile finishers receive finishers buckles and entrants receive event swag.

Cautions include technical singletrack on traprock ridges, at least 16,722 feet of vertical gain, night navigation requirements, and open roads. The race director may deny entry based on experience or conduct. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
